Hovercrafts have been sparking my interest lately, but I have a few questions on the capablilities of them. I was hoping you guys can answer a few for me.
First of all, I am looking into just a begginner craft, like the UH-12T4, so these questions below are kind of based on it.
1. When the craft is turned off, what does it rest on? Wheels under there?
2. When out in open waters, can you stop the motors and do some fishing? How does, or can, it stay afloat?
3. Are they upgradable on speed at all?
4. Fuel effectiency? How long would the UH-12T4's little 1 gallon tank go?
5. When running on water and sand mainly, how long do skirts last?
That's all I can think of for now, but I might have more later. Any info would be great. Thanks. |

Poe, sorry for the delay!
1. When the craft is turned off, what does it rest on? Wheels under there?
The hull will rest on the water, (floating)...On land it will rest on the hull skids that are designed to absorb the wear from different surfaces.
2. When out in open waters, can you stop the motors and do some fishing?
yes you can fish all day or fire up the thrust fan and troll! How does, or can, it stay afloat? The hull is built like a boat, as long as you have the drain plug in, you will fine, even without it, it wont sink. Universal is wood and composite, and some floatation built in.
3. Are they upgradable on speed at all? Yes, check out the links page on this website to contact them for more information, or jion some of the forums on hovercraft.
4. Fuel effectiency? How long would the UH-12T4's little 1 gallon tank go?
[i]That will depend upon the power source. Hard to answer that one..
5. When running on water and sand mainly, how long do skirts last?
If you ran on sand with 18oz rubberized nylon, maybe 50 hours?, on water- indefinitly. _________________ CEO, Hovercraft Alaska |

are you asking how long it takes to burn a gallon of fuel or thats the cratfs fuel tank size? a good standard is every 50 hp requires 4 gallons of fuel and hour. this is not the rating of how big the engine is, tis is how much hp you are using. for instance a rotax win carb 503 burns 4 gallons an hour at near full rpm. cessna 150 with a 100hp standard engine burns about 8 gallons and hour. small block in a boat 200hp running at 75% POWER BURNS 12 gph. these are very standard numbers and cross into many fields. eally it comes down to the fuels btu output. fuel injection is worth at least 10% more economy and diesle is even better. but you'll never go wrong with using the this as a standard. and always use a motor that is 25% bigger than you will ever need so you are not runnig it past the 75% hp range. makes em last longer and helps on fuel ecomony. most engines are not cammed for high power settings so they start to abuse fuel up there. find the torque rating for the engine and set the max load in the peak torque area and you'll be on target for a good set up. _________________ There are only two real sports, boxing and auto racing.
